How to Publish Articles
Complete guide to creating and publishing articles on The Vindex
Access the Admin Dashboard
Go to /admin to access the article management dashboard.
https://yourdomain.vercel.app/admin
You will see all published and draft articles in a table format. This is where you manage all your content.
Click "New Article" Button
Look for the blue "New Article" button in the top right corner of the admin dashboard. Click it to open the article creation form.
You will be directed to the article editor where you can fill in all the details about your article.
Fill in Article Details
Complete all the required fields:
- Title: The main headline (required). Make it compelling and descriptive.
- Excerpt: A short summary (150-200 characters). This appears on article listings.
- Content: The full article text. You can write as much as you need.
- Category: Select from: Geopolitics, Politics, Laws, Technology, or Analysis.
- Author: Your name or journalist name.
- Reading Time: Estimate in minutes (e.g., 12 for 12 minutes read).
- Featured Image URL: (Optional) Link to a header image for the article.
Choose Publishing Options
Before clicking Create Article, check these options:
- ✓ Publish immediately: Check this to publish the article right away.
- ✓ Featured article: Check this to show on the homepage featured section.
Click "Create Article"
Once all details are filled in, click the "Create Article" button at the bottom of the form.
The article will be created immediately. If you checked "Publish immediately", it will appear on your site right away!
View Your Published Article
Go back to the admin dashboard and find your article in the list. Click on it to view the published page, or visit the homepage to see it featured.
The article will be:
- ✓ Visible on /articles page
- ✓ Searchable by category
- ✓ Featured on homepage (if marked as featured)
- ✓ Accessible at /article/your-article-slug
Pro Tips for Better Articles
Writing Great Titles
Keep titles under 70 characters. Make them descriptive and compelling. Examples:
"India-China Border Tensions: Geopolitical Implications" vs "Border Issue"
Effective Excerpts
Write 2-3 sentences that summarize your article. This is what readers see in article listings.
Choosing Categories
Pick ONE main category. Use these guidelines:
- • Geopolitics: International relations, global events
- • Politics: Indian politics, governance, elections
- • Laws: Legal analysis, constitutional matters
- • Technology: Tech policy, digital rights, innovation
- • Analysis: Deep-dive research and critical evaluation
Reading Time Estimate
Use this formula: divide total words by 200 (average reading speed). For example: 2,400 words ÷ 200 = 12 minutes.
Feature Important Articles
Check "Featured article" for your most important or breaking news pieces. Only 2-3 articles should be featured at a time.
Troubleshooting
Article not appearing on the site?
Make sure "Publish immediately" was checked. You can also go to /admin, find the article, and manually publish it.
Article not showing in a category?
Verify the correct category was selected when creating the article. Go back to /admin and check the category field.
Need to edit an article?
Go to /admin, find your article in the list, and click "Edit" to modify the content or metadata.
Ready to Publish?
Start creating your first article now! Go to the admin dashboard and click "New Article".
